Position Description


Moloney & Sons Engineering is a unique professional engineering practice who have specialised in civil & structural engineering including all facets of civil infrastructure and planning, stormwater/flood management together with commercial, industrial, medium-rise & residential structural engineering. 

The Role


Due to continued growth and ongoing success, MSE has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Structural Engineer with demonstrated experience in one or more aspects of building structural engineering. The Principal Structural Engineer will contribute to the winning, management and delivery of projects. The role is to provide leadership to professional and technical staff on complex projects of varying scale that deliver high standard outcomes for MSE clients. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a client base working relationship and be involved in regular client liaison, business development.

Minimum Requirements

Key responsibilities

  • As a Principal Structural Engineer, effectively control commercial, managerial and technical aspects of the project or the part of the project you are responsible for.

  • Assist the Directors with their team management responsibilities.

  • Ensure effective communication of business issues within all aspects of the team.

  • Understand and implement the Company's strategy relating to customers (repeat business).

  • Awareness of marketing opportunities and the capability of the business as a whole.

  • Understand and implement the Company's core values in every aspect of business.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Tertiary qualification in structural engineering (RPEQ Accredited).

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in related engineering background

  • High degree of technical competence in the field

  • Strong Knowledge and competency in structural building design & specifications.

  • Well versed in Australian Standards, Typical Industrial Practice & NCC requirements;

  • Demonstrated skills in managing projects (or components of) and budgets to meet time and resource requirements.

  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams, and being an effective, positive part of a team.

  • A good understanding of construction methods, procedures and the design constraints they present

  • Successful track record and substantial experience in managing and leading projects.

  • Competence in Microsoft office packages.

  • Client focused (both internal and external clients).

  • The ability to be an attentive and active listener who command attention and can manage group process during presentations

  • Demonstrated commercial acumen and the ability to develop a strong client base
